The town of Yirgacheffe (Irgachefe) is in Ethiopia’s Sidama (or “Sidamo”) area at an elevation of about 1,900 meters above sea level and is the administrative center of the coffees-growing district. Yirgacheffe coffee farmers are members of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU), which comprises 23 different member cooperatives, which consists of over 40,000 farmers. Members of the YCFCU are exempt from the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX), which allows them to receive a premium for their coffees, helping to esnsure equitable pay and the highest quality.
This year's crop leaped off the cupping table. With bright citrus tones of orange and pineapple, finishing with a subtle sweetness, comparable to honey. Yirgacheffe is grown at such a high altitude that it qualifies for the stricly hard bean certification - meaning that these beans are densely packed with nuanced flavours. Brew this coffee carefully and enjoy it on it's own. If you are feeling brave pull it as an espresso and experience an exaggeration of all of those citrus tones.
